Molecular Sound composed the soundtrack for Sky Sports' F1 2026 season launch film. It was built to capture the anticipation of the final moments before lights out, from a real heartbeat and the sound of an orchestra tuning up to manipulated Formula 1 car sounds. Composed by Dave Connolly for SATV Music and Sky Creative.

The Brief

2026 is a new era for Formula 1, and Sky Sports needed a film to launch the season. The job for the music was to bottle one specific feeling: the last few seconds on the grid before the lights go out, when everything is held on a knife edge.

The Sound

The pulse under the whole track is a real heartbeat, recorded through a stethoscope. It sets the tempo and the tension, the thing every driver feels on the grid. Over that we layered the sound of an orchestra tuning up, all the anticipation before a note is properly played, against gritty hardware synths for the edge. The Formula 1 is in there too: we took real car sounds and stretched and manipulated them into drones and risers, so the track is built partly from the thing it is about.

It all builds to lights out. That is the emotional peak, but we didn't let it resolve and fade. The track kicks off right at the very end, so it leaves you wanting the season to start rather than winding down.

What We Delivered

The film opens Sky Sports' Formula 1 season, and the audience behind it is vast. F1's global audience reached a cumulative 1.83 billion in 2025, its biggest in five years, and Sky Sports is its exclusive UK home. That is the level of anticipation the launch film had to deliver.
