Molecular Sound composed the Premier League anthem and overarching sonic identity. Written over nine months and recorded at Abbey Road and The Church Studios with a group of 83 musicians and technicians, the anthem launched ahead of the 2020/21 season and plays in the moments before kick-off, with a suite of variations across the league's sub-brands. Composed by Dave Connolly.
The Brief
The Premier League wanted one piece of music at the centre of every matchday, from the broadcast open to the moments inside the stadium. The difficulty was reach. The competition is followed by well over a billion people who don't share a language, so the anthem had to feel true to English football and still land with someone watching their first match on the other side of the world.
How We Made It
We created an anthem that celebrates British musical heritage. Strings for the prestige of the competition. Live guitars to keep it raw and human rather than polished and corporate. A gospel choir for lift and soul. The anthem plays before every Premier League kick off week in, week out, so it had to build anticipation without tipping into anything too bombastic.
We recorded at Abbey Road and The Church Studios with 83 musicians and technicians, an orchestra and a live gospel choir among them. The timing gave it something extra. We tracked it as soon as we could after the first 2020 lockdown lifted, so this was more than 80 people back in a room together after months of everyone working alone. That energy is in the take.
Brief to final master ran to about nine months. It was mixed and mastered for broadcast, so it holds up everywhere the Premier League plays, from a stadium PA to a phone in a loud room.
Main Anthem
At the centre is the anthem, and inside it the Premier League sonic logo: the short, fixed phrase that can be lifted out and recognised on its own, whether it arrives in full orchestral form or pared back to a few notes.
Sonic Flex
An identity is only useful if it stretches, so alongside the main theme we wrote variations for the wider Premier League world, including Fantasy Premier League, the Hall of Fame and ePremier League. Each keeps the core recognisable while shifting mood, pace and instrumentation for its own audience.
"The anthem captures the drama and emotion of a Premier League matchday and we hope it will soon become instantly recognisable to supporters around the world."

Chief Commercial Officer, Premier League
Premier League matchday broadcasts reach 189 countries and around 900 million homes, with an estimated 1.87 billion people following the competition each week. The anthem plays before kick-off at every Premier League ground, and it sits on the League's official Spotify playlist for fans who want to hear it on its own. It has been in use since the 2020/21 season, across every season since.
